the music

David Brooks, Drums.  The one who started the band in 1996 and only serious musician in the band, David played in high school and worked his way up to the prestigious two o’clock lab band at North Texas State University.  He also played in the orchestra.  David plays keyboard, vibes and xylophone as well as drums and sings Frank Sinatra tunes.  David gave up music to become a lawyer and works for Remington Hotel Group in Ft. Worth.  He is married to Julie and is the father of Jordan and Jenna.  He also runs the JJJ Ranch outside Corsicana.

Max "CC"Tucker, Keyboards.  Also one of the founding members of the band, Max plays keyboards and when we took a turn toward some country music, brought out a fiddle that he played years ago.  Max is also a lawyer, married to Lydia and the father of John, a sax man in the OU band and Twister, an excitable dog.

Jeff Jones, Guitar, Vocals.  Jeff is a dentist, specializing in “Billy Bob” teeth.  To David’s dismay, he acquired a pedal steel guitar, and though he never had lessons, still tries to play it occasionally, helping round out some of our western swing and country tunes.  Jeff brings a driving guitar on rock ‘n roll songs and upbeat vocals on our rockabilly and 50s tunes.  He played in a band with his brother Jay in college.  He is married to Crysta and is the father of Lindsey, Adam, Nick and Rachel.

Dwight Henneberger, Trumpet.  Another founding member, Dwight played in the Aggie band and participated in one of the few halftime “mishaps” they have ever had.  We taught Dwight how to swing the notes a little bit and forget about the Aggie War Hymn.  He also provides jokes in between sets at Skeeters performances.  Dwight owns a construction company, is married to Cynthia and is the father of Laura, Kevin, and Holly.

Rick Reynolds, Tenor Sax, Vocals (?).  The last of the founding members, Rick played in high school in Oak Cliff (what?!) and in the jazz band and Mustang Band at SMU.  Over the objection of Jeff, he also persuaded members to let him do some vocals, particularly on songs requiring a coarse, gravelly voice.  Rick is an audit manager at DART.  He is married to Cyndi and is the father of Austin and Lauren.

Charlie “Chuck” “Carlos” “Goober” Esquivel, Lead Trumpet.  Rick recruited Charlie to join the band two years ago.  He knew of his reputation from the Mustang Band at SMU, but invited him anyway, and he has turned out very well.  Actually Charlie was the featured performer with the band at SMU and soloed on some albums they made.  Charlie, also an Oak Cliff dweller, has no children but would like to father some soon.  He needs to find a wife first.  He works as a financial consultant at UBS and would like to talk to you about some cattle futures.

Fielder Nelms, Lead Vocals, Keyboards.  Fielder joined the band to fill a big void in vocals and to keep Jeff and Rick away from the microphone.  Fielder is a lawyer and the father of Kelly who sings with Lindsay and Cami Welch at special events.  To David’s disappointment, Fielder likes country music too.

Mike Sandel, Bass Guitar Mike joined and has tried to make the rest of us focus on one song at a time instead of our usual A.D.D. approach to practice.  He's also become our musical director as of late, bringing the horns into the computer rage.
